Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Avengers: Endgame.
Scarlet Witch actress Elizabeth Olsen shares another behind-the-scenes video from the filming of Avengers: Endgame’s big final battle. Among the unfortunate half of the universe who was dusted in Avengers: Infinity War after Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) deadly snap, Wanda wasn’t around for the most part of the latest Marvel Studios blockbuster. But with the remaining characters succeeding in bringing back everyone who was disintegrated into dust, all MCU heroes come back to join the massive fight against the Mad Titan in Avengers HQ with what’s arguably the most epic shot of the film.
The culmination of everything that’s transpired in the MCU since it began in 2008 with Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau’s Iron Man, Endgame wrapped up the franchise’s The Infinity Saga, and with it came the ending the arcs of some of the beloved founding heroes of the universe. Peppered with countless references to all 21 movies that came before it, it was the pay off of 11 years of patient world building. And arguably, nothing encapsulates that idea in the film more than the movie’s massive battle that involved all remaining major heroes in the MCU against Thanos and his army of Chitauris and Outriders, not to mention the Black Order.
With countless actors on the set that day of filming, Olsen couldn’t help herself from filming a snippet of it during their lull time. In the video, shared on the actress’ official Instagram account, she makes a 360 degree shot of her surroundings, capturing various actors on their positions with directors Joe and Anthony Russo giving the directions. Most of the actors are in their casual clothes, but some of them have hair and make-up done, including Chris Hemsworth’s Thor who’s rocking the braided beard and Chris Evans’ Captain America already sporting the dusty face as seen in Endgame. Watch the full clip below:
It was Guardians of the Galaxy’s Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord) who first shared a similar BTS video where Olsen was caught in frame speaking with Don Cheadle (Rhodey/War Machine). But it seems like there was a change of blocking between Pratt’s video and this one, seeing that the positions of characters have changed. Nonetheless, it’s still really cool seeing all these actors on one sound stage surrounded by a green screen. And considering what fans have seen in the film, there were several of them that weren’t even there during filming, which put into perspective just how enormous that Endgame climactic battle was.
One can only imagine how difficult it was to coordinate the schedules of all these actors who also have other job commitments outside of the MCU to film this bit. It’s no secret that the Russos went to great lengths to preserve the secrecy 0f the film by handing out unfinished scripts and even sending out a personal plea to the public to not spoil Avengers: Endgame. Based on the commotion around both Olsen and Pratt’s video and the proximity of the directors while they filmed using their phones, it’s safe to say that they knew about this, but trusted their actors to keep it to themselves until it was proper to share with the world.
