Since 2003, Ellen DeGeneres has been gracing us with her presence through her own talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Ellen is so classically good on screen that the show has been renewed until 2022.
Throughout the years, we’ve seen an abundance of good deeds, famed celebrities, and some epic dance moves, but in 2017, something else took over: the “Me On Ellen” meme. Always the entertainer, Ellen is bubbly and authentically herself. She’s like a walking ray of sunshine to those around her. But when it comes to the “Me On Ellen” memes, things takes a surprisingly dark turn.
Instead of the usual happy situations like taking home a large check, leaving the studio in a new car, or getting a job, these memes are based around surprise guests that take a darker, more ominous tone. From death to vaccines, these memes aren’t for the faint of heart. Get ready to be offended!
IF JESUS WERE ON ELLEN
First of all, if Jesus were ever to come back to life and be on a talk show, it would be Ellen’s. Besides Kelly Ripa, Ellen is the most authentic version of herself on air with a good heart. You know she would do anything for another person in need—especially since she does so on air. And, to be honest, if Jesus were to put his skills to the test, he’d do it for Ellen.
MAKING THE TOPIC OF VACCINATIONS PLAYFUL
Okay, so the topic of vaccinations is a hot and heavy one. It’s no wonder the people of the Internet made it a meme.
With her glossy white smile and clean sneakers, we can totally see Ellen asking the medical staff to come out on stage. There are not many people who can turn down Ellen DeGeneres on her own show, especially when she’s trying to do something nice for them. Oh, Ellen.
THINGS LIKE THIS PROBABLY HAPPEN
The Office’s John Krasinski is a beautifully talented man. The husband of Emily Blunt and the star of A Quiet Place, he may be the most genuine person in Hollywood aside from Ellen herself.
Since people tweet and post a lot of strange things that they don’t necessarily mean, this meme isn’t too far off. I mean, I don’t think John Krasinksi would ever step on another human being, but I do think he would make an appearance on stage wearing whatever kind of boots he was asked.
IF DISNEY CHARACTERS COULD COME TO LIFE
Is Ellen DeGeneres magical? Show after show, she’s willing to help people achieve their dreams and donate whatever she can to their particular cause. She also makes a ton of kids famous after she sees a video or image of them on the Internet, and hosts them on her show.
If anyone had the power to make an animated car come to life on national TV, it would be Ellen. Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) is the main character in the Disney film Cars. We can always recognize Wilson’s voice, but seeing Lightning McQueen in real life would be transformative.
POKÉMON
As I’m writing this, I’m beginning to think Ellen may be working with some kind of witchcraft. All of these memes are purely hypothetical and yet I can see each and every one of them happening. (Yes, Jesus bringing people back to life included.) Pokémon died off once the later 2000s hit, but the genre had a resurgence in 2016 when Pokemon GO was released. This app brought Pokémon back to life, both figuratively and literally. People who played with Pokémon cards when they were kids were suddenly back in the thick of it. And kids who never heard of Pokémon were now excited by this innovative app. While it would be cool to see a Charizard roaming the forest in real life, seeing it appear on Ellen would be just as cool.
WHAT A TURN OF EVENTS
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is the hilarious show about police officers in the 99th Precinct of Brooklyn, starring Andy Samberg and Terry Crews, among others. Kicking off in 2013, NBC canceled the show after its fifth season.
However after some pushback, the network decided to extend the show to a seventh season. With viewers all over, I could totally see fans of the show appearing on Ellen, hoping for a chance to meet some of the characters. The problem is, this scenario seems more on par with Jerry Springer than it does on Ellen.
ONLY ELLEN COULD BE EXCUSED BY SAYING THIS
Cat lovers get a bad rep for some reason. Apparently a person having too many cats is stereotyped as creepy, single, and alone; but a person with too many dogs is considered cool. I’m not sure where the disconnect began, but nevertheless, if anyone could get away with shining a spotlight on a person for having too many cats while being single, it would be Ellen. Think about it—if a parent or a friend seriously said this, there would be some tears involved. But Ellen? Only laughs.
ELLEN’S JOKES ARE SO SIMPLE, THEY’RE GOLD
When you think about it, Ellen isn’t a Jim Gaffigan or an Ali Wong. She’s a comedian at heart, yes, but her jokes come off more sweet-natured than anything else. But on her show, she doesn’t need to say much to be perceived as funny. The audience is constantly cackling at her facial expressions, her dance moves, and her confusion. Just when you think she’s about to do something epic, the moment it falls through fans still laugh at (and with) her.
THIS HAS DEFINITELY HAPPENED BEFORE
While the “me on Ellen” memes typically have a darker tone to them, this one finally brings us some happiness. Rami Malek is the extremely talented actor who portrayed Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Like many other stars, he’s appeared on Ellen as a guest before.
There have been countless moments on the show featuring somebody who has been inspired by a particular star, only to get a very pleasant surprise. While these stars don’t fall through the roof, they do tend to sneak up behind their unsuspecting fans and surprise them.
ONLY ON ELLEN
People would do practically anything to be sitting in the chair next to Ellen. However, it’s the people who aren’t asking for the attention that Ellen typically chooses to sit next to her (unless they’re an adorable kid, of course). So while this meme is rather gruesome, it still follows suit with the fact that Ellen would do anything to produce her fans’ requests.
PUPPIES!
Wait, did this meme actually happen on Ellen? Because I could totally see this happening. We all love baby animals, and Ellen is a huge advocate for the health and wellness of all creatures, so who’s to say this won’t happen in the future?
I don’t think these puppies would stay still long enough under her trench coat (plus, Ellen wearing anything other than her usual attire would be a dead giveaway), but I could see her hiding a puppy or two around the studio, waiting for the guest to find them. OMG, Ellen, you didn’t!
