Emilia Clarke, who plays the mysterious female lead in the upcoming young Han Solo spinoff movie, knows all too well she has to keep its details close to the chest. Secrecy on sets is not a new thing, especially in this digital age, but it also means that actors must be careful about what they say. After Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres this December, we can then begin looking forward to the next Star Wars anthology film which will tackle Han Solo’s early years.
Other than the subject of the film, the creative team and the actors in it, very little is known about the project. No one even knows what it’s called with the best guess going to Han Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Emilia Clarke, best known for her portrayal of Daenarys in HBO’s Game of Thrones, is no stranger to secrecy on set, but even she is overwhelmed by what she can and can’t say about the Han Solo film. In an interview with Independent, she revealed what she’s allowed to tell the press. Here’s what she told the outlet:
Clarke has read the screenplay for the film so, ironically, she knows more about what will happen in the Han Solo movie than she does on Game of Thrones. According to the actress, the creative team on the television series is keeping everyone — including the actors, in the dark.
“I genuinely can’t tell you anything other than Alden [Ehrenreich, who plays Han Solo] is magnificent, and it’s a delight to do something on that level with really cool actors and nice people. But it’s even scarier talking about that than Game of Thrones.”
That probably adds a lot more terror to speaking with the press about Han Solo because she genuinely just doesn’t know as much about Game of Thrones. Hard to let something slip that you don’t know.
“No one knows anything. No one is told anything. It’s all crazy. It’s a secret from the cast. We generally can’t be trusted. They pretty much have told us so.”
Right now, the only thing we know about the Han Solo film for sure is that it will cover a six year time period taking the character from 18 to 24. We’ll find out how he meets and befriends a Wookiee named Chewbacca, and we’ll finally see the game where he wins the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian who will be played by Donald Glover.
There are also some rumblings that a fan favorite prequel Jedi could be showing up in the Han Solo anthology movie. A character named Dryden Vos may appear in the film which has led to some speculation that he could actually be Quinlan Vos or a relative of the Jedi. However, characters have shared surnames before with Wedge Antilles and Captain Raymus Antilles sharing the same name but being unrelated. Time will tell, but hopefully this year’s D23 convention has some answers in store.
