A brand new Avengers: Endgame poster features the original six MCU heroes and their respective fallen counterparts. With less than a week left before the culmination of a 22-film arc that started all the way in 2008 via Jon Favreau’s Iron Man debut, Marvel Studios is ramping up the the promotional campaign with the release of a new one-sheet. And true to the crux of the upcoming film, it centers around the founding characters of the franchise, this time with a twist - as they’re paired up with those whom they lost in Avengers: Infinity War.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo with the story written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Endgame is hailed as the end of MCU’s The Infinity Saga. Not much is known regarding its plot specifics, with its marketing designed to not give away any significant story points that might give the public an inkling as to what’s panning out in the movie. However, with the way things ended in Infinity War as Thanos successfully decimated half of life in the universe using a completed Infinity Gauntlet, the remaining heroes, led by the original Avengers, need to pick themselves up and make sure that they avenge the fallen whatever it takes. This is the main inspiration for the latest poster for the Phase 3 capper.

Posted on Marvel Studios’ official Twitter account is an Endgame poster created by digital artist SG_Posters, and it features Bruce Banner, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow and Thor. Parallel to them are Doctor Strange, Wanda, Spider-Man, Bucky, Nicky Fury and Loki - all of which died during Infinity War, and except for the God of Mischief who was personally killed by Thanos, were affected by the snap. Check out the illustration below:

Looking at the pairings, the majority of them make sense and are pretty straightforward. Nat had been working with Fury long before the Avengers were assembled in 2012, so while they never really got to interact in the last couple of films, their relationship has long been established. Clint and Wanda’s link might be fresher, but they’ve hit it off following an initial scuffle in Avengers: Age of Ultron. What’s most interesting in the pictured pairings is Banner and Doctor Strange, considering that they’ve barely had any interactions outside of their conversation at the start of Infinity War.

It’s currently unclear how these dead heroes are going to be brought back to life. Out of the six dead characters, three of them are already confirmed for projects set after the events of the twin Avengers sequel. Spider-Man and Nick Fury will be off to Europe in Spider-Man: Far From Home, while Doctor Strange will be up for his second solo outing. Meanwhile, Loki, Wanda, and Bucky are all expected to star in their own Dinsey+ series, although there’s no word yet when these shows will take place.

With these heroes expected to be resurrected, many are curious how it affects the original heroes. Avengers: Endgame will supposedly be the last outing for some of the MCU’s founding heroes, but considering that the film is the culmination of a decade’s worth of stories, it’ll mark the end of an era, which means that it’ll somehow see the passing of the torch from the original six Avengers to the future faces of their universe.
