Movie theater employees have been overwhelmed by the huge amount of trash left in the wake of the droves of film fans that flocked to see Avengers: Endgame over the weekend. The hugely popular movie is already smashing box office records, earning $350 million domestically during its opening weekend and $1.2 billion worldwide. Endgame has also earned its place in history as the first movie to gross a billion dollars during its opening weekend.

Given the massive popularity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the success of Avengers: Endgame isn’t too surprising. The multi-billion dollar MCU franchise has been responsible for some of the highest-grossing movies of all time, with Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Captain Marvel all surpassing the billion dollar milestone at the global box office. Endgame’s record-breaking box office performance is nevertheless impressive, and though Infinity War currently ranks as the MCU’s most successful movie, it’s still early days for Endgame, and it could well surpass its predecessor in the coming weeks.

Endgame’s success has its downsides, though - at least for movie theater employees who, as Comic Book reports, are struggling to cope with the massive influx of Marvel fans rushing to see the movie. One cinema worker named Thomas Broome-Jones tweeted pictures of several trash bags filled to the brim with rubbish left behind after a screening of Endgame that took he and his colleagues over two hours to clean up, imploring moviegoers to take their trash with them when they leave. Fellow Twitter user Michael Colpitts, a theater manager, stated that cinemas are not equipped to deal with the sheer volume of customers that went to see Endgame during its opening weekend.

In an attempt to cope with the many moviegoers flocking through their doors, movie theater employees are having to resort to some rather drastic measures. As MCU films are known for their post-credits scenes, it seems many viewers have been lingering to catch a glimpse of any Avengers: Endgame post-credits scenes. However, since the MCU’s latest smash hits marks the end of the Infinity Saga, Avengers: Endgame bucks the trend and doesn’t feature any post-credits scenes. It does feature a special credits sequence that honors the actors who play the original six Avengers and a spoiler-ish audio cue, but the anticipated post-credits scene is entirely absent. Movie theater workers are therefore asking moviegoers to leave before the credits stop rolling, so they can clean up the auditorium before the next wave of Avengers: Endgame viewers arrive.

While movie theater staff no doubt have everybody’s sympathy, one can kind of see where Marvel fans are coming from. Avengers: Endgame was massively hyped before its release, and even if it doesn’t feature the trademark post-credits scene, there’s still the special credits sequence and audio cue to stick around for. On the other hand, there’s no reason for the massive amount of trash moviegoers are leaving in their wake – that’s just inexcusable. Seriously, what would Captain America think?
